Schiemer Farms is located in the beautiful and fertile high desert of Eastern Oregon.  The long, warm summer days and cool nights provide ideal conditions for growing onions.  Eastern Oregon and Idaho share the highest yield per acre in the United States.   Our rich volcanic soil and furrow, sprinkler, and drip irrigation help to produce large high quality onions available from August through March.  Schiemer Farms is a third generation farm combining years of experience and hard work and utilizing the latest in agricultural technology  to make our onion crop the best that it can be.  We pack only our own onions and we value the one on one relationship we develop with our customers.

Text Box: Rod raises onions, alfalfa seed, corn, wheat and potatoes on over 1,400 acres.  He has been farming full time since the age of 18, has 11 years of farming experience and is a well-known and respected farmer in the Nyssa area.  Rod works hard every day to produce a top quality crop by staying current with the latest agricultural developments while at the same time benefiting from the years of his father's experience.

Text Box: Skip Johnson is the Schiemer Farms sales and transportation manager . He has over 15 years experience as a USDA inspector of onions and potatoes for the Oregon Department of Agriculture.  Before coming to Schiemer Farms, Skip managed a local packing shed's inspection program as well as their food and plant safety programs.  Skip resides in Fruitland, Idaho, with his wife, Donna, and daughter, Chelsea and has 2 grown children.

ONIONS FOR PROCESSING…

Schiemer Farms also packs onions for processing.  These onions are inspected and packed into bulk bags that hold approx. 2,000 lbs.  The onions are then directly shipped to the processing company to be peeled and cut into strips or diced and are used in a variety of prepared onion products such as onion rings, salsa, and dehydrated onions.
